My submission for porpentine's divination jam. A great lady and her fortune.
The method of divination was a tarot reading I performed on behalf of the story's protagonist, and to which each of the seven rooms she explores corresponds to a card in the sequence. I was trying to tell the story in the cards while keeping the obfuscating quality of tarot, but the game became more of an ode to the meanings I find in them.
Well anyway, I hope you enjoy.
[SPOILERS]
If you're not familiar with tarot and are curious what the cards I received are, the spread was as follows:
The Devil, The Chariot, Death, The Hermit, The Star, The Moon, and The Hanged (wo)Man

Beautiful sonet. In the end, a card, hung in the void. But not an empty card. Damage, comes from experience. It is what makes us remember, question and seek. Lost shard, still adrift.
The art in this is beautiful, and the way that the art is fulfilled by the captions is so elegant. I can see myself returning to this a lot. The whole experience is very abstract and ethereal and I enjoyed it.
i'm glad you liked it!! this is really high praise for me haha
wow! i really like the art you did for the cards, and even though i'm already pretty familiar with tarot, i definitely felt like the dialogue in each room gave me a better understanding of the card's significance. it makes me imagine if there were a sort of digital tarot deck like this where you could do custom readings and it would walk you through a little journey explaining it to you!
Oh that's such a cool idea! something like that was definitely an inspiration for the game, but a full custom reading generator would have probably been hard to for the jam lol
the cards were definitely biased towards their relevance to this reading but im glad they were able to give a new perspective to their meanings!
